What's the difference between Cat 5, Cat 5e and Cat 6 Network Cables? Can I use one in place of another?
The difference is in the bandwith ratings. Cat 5e has a higher bandwidth than Cat 5. Cat 6 has a higher rating than Cat 5e. They all use RJ45 connectors and are usually interchangeable depending on the bandwidth requirements of your devices.

Price

Lots of steel in my home (framing, etc.), and we were having problems with the in-house wireless network. I knew the router was good, but there were too many walls and obstructions between where the router was located, and where we were using our laptops and wireles printer. This and the Cat 6 cable, connected to the original pair, enabled me to place the router where we now have uninterrupted wireless throughout the house. Cable is top notch - strongly recommend it!
